Penetrating Bone Grass Oil

Bone-penetrating herb (scientific name: Phryma leptostachya   L.  subsp.  asiatica   (Hara) Kitamura), also known as medicinal herb, fly-poison herb, etc. Perennial herb, height (10-)30-80 (-100) cm. Stem erect, 4-angled, unbranched or with inflorescence-bearing branches in the upper part, branches spreading, green or pale purple, covered with inverted short pubescence or with spreading short pubescence on the upper stem, few nearly glabrous. Leaves opposite; leaf blades ovate-oblong, ovate-lanceolate, ovate-elliptic to ovate-triangular or broadly ovate, herbaceous. Spike inflorescences borne at stem apex and lateral branch tips, covered with fine pubescence or short pubescence; corolla funnel-shaped tubular, 6.5-7.5 mm long, blue-purple, pale red to white, glabrous outside, inside with short pubescence on the abaxial surface of the tube. Achene narrowly elliptic, enclosed within a club-shaped persistent calyx, reflexed and appressed to the inflorescence axis. Seed 1, basal, seed coat membranous, fused with the pericarp. Flowering period June-October, fruiting period August-December.
